The First Musical Footsteps

As the term "footsteps" suggests, each musical journey is a road map that sets a course for the Terry Jean Pollard Music Foundation's strategic plan to provide an excellent music education for every child. The standards contained in our footsteps percussion music program are grounded in the National Learning Standards for the Arts.

Footsteps for Teaching and Learning Music focus's on the Art of Percussion. Our courses of music education begins in early childhood and follows students up through the grades to a commencement level of achievement in music. Footsteps provides a standards-based rigorous approach to teaching music. It gives students the opportunity to delve deeply into these lessons and have fun while doing so. More importantly, the sequential study of music will help students achieve a vocation in the arts. Their on-going work will enable them to apply for advanced studies or for careers in the music-related industries that are so important to the economy. It will also provide them with a source of lifelong enjoyment as they become the future audiences for the arts.

Footsteps for Teaching and Learning Music is a result of a collaboration between educators and representatives from the music and arts cultural communities. It motivates students to go beyond the walls of the classroom and encourages them to take advantage of the rich resources of lesson learning. We are delighted to continue Terry Jean Pollard's legacy by introducing our programs to young children in our educational system. The programs offer a method of empowering adolescents by using educational standards that will enable them to learn and teach musical concepts. Our goals are to educate young artist so that they can take advantage of various career opportunities available in the music industry. The future needs more trained female musicians, arrangers, composers, song writers, engineers and producers. The Terry Jean Pollard Music Foundation with your support plan to be at the helm of this educational moment.
